Dear Friends,
Thank you, for visiting this website to learn more about my 2012 campaign for Madison County Auditor. I am very excited about the support I have received, and I want to thank all those who have helped me in this process! I believe that it is the responsibility of our elected officials to serve the citizens with a customer service focus making it easier to do business with their government.
The question I get asked the most is why am I running for Madison County Auditor?
I believe I am the candidate with proven leadership that has brought about positive lasting change in County Government. I have implemented new computer software streamlining how documents are recorded at a cost savings to the taxpayer, and making the office more efficient.
One very important initiative of my administration was creating a free service to protect property owners from identity thieves notifying them when documents are recorded that affect the title to their property. I have issued consumer alerts, and expanded the online availability of documents. Finally, I expanded the payment options to increase the electronic transfer of funds.
I am a committed conservative, and a lifelong republican. I was the only office holder in the 2011 budget hearings that cut their budget by 10 percent. I realize the importance of reducing the burden on tax-payers. I am ready to bring the same innovative technologies, proven leadership, and committed conservative principals to the Auditor's office with your help!
What does the Auditor do?
The Auditor is the Chief Financial Officer of the County. The staff is responsible for handling all receipts and disbursements of county funds, creating financial statements for the county, completing annual reports for review by the State Board of Accounts, and processing payroll for all county employees.
Additionally, the office handles all transfers of ownership of real property, preserves the plat maps on the County GIS system, calculates property tax for all real, personal, mobile home, drainage and special assessment records, controls distributions of tax collections, special assessments, and special revenue collections for all units of government within Madison County, including the Cities of and all school districts.
The Auditor also serves as the Secretary to County Council. The Auditor maintains all budgets, salary ordinances, additional appropriations, transfers, and abatement applications as well as the minutes of all County Council proceedings.
I believe Government should work for you! Please, remember to vote for Angela Shelton for County Auditor on Primary Election Day this May 8th.
